Jason S. Downs

Jason S. Downs, Partner at Murphy & Downs Law Offices, P.A., focuses his practice exclusively on criminal defense. He has earned national recognition as a Super Lawyers® Rising Star, an honor awarded to only 2.5% of attorneys. Jason earned his Associate of Applied Science in Paralegal Studies, summa cum laude, from Hodges University, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies, summa cum laude, from Hodges University. He later received his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from WMU Cooley Law School, where he excelled in trial skills, appellate advocacy, and DUI law, graduating in only two years while earning multiple academic honors.

Before becoming an attorney, Jason worked as a paralegal, legal analyst, and brief writer, assisting Florida defense attorneys with trial strategies, motions, and appeals. His work resulted in numerous successful outcomes, including published appellate opinions and motions that led to the dismissal or reduction of criminal charges. These experiences shaped his approach to building winning defense strategies.

Since joining Murphy & Downs, Jason has tried cases across a wide range of charges, including DUI, drug offenses, violent crimes, and appeals. He has also been published multiple times in The Florida Defender law journal on critical criminal defense issues such as DNA evidence, DUI crash cases, and police authority limits.

Licensed to practice before Florida state and federal courts, Jason S. Downs is an active member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the National College for DUI Defense. With a proven record of advocacy, he remains committed to protecting the rights of the accused throughout Florida.
