About
Jason M. Leifer is the principal of his own law practice, serving the Ithaca and Dryden area of New York. He represents individuals facing criminal charges in town and county courts and handles custody and visitation matters in Family Court. He also represents children through the Third Department Appellate Division Attorney for Children Program and clients through assigned counsel programs in Tompkins, Schuyler, and Tioga counties.
Leifer attended New York Law School, where he participated in the Moot Court Association while working full time at Ahmuty, Demers, and McManus. He previously graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 1992 with dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in English Literature and Radio, Television, and Film. His training and experience inform both his courtroom work and his service in local government.
He has represented people who cannot afford private counsel and has advised municipal officials on legal questions involving zoning, renewable energy development, cannabis regulation, budgeting, and related issues. Earlier in his career, he served as outside counsel to the District of Columbia Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs on business and occupational licensing matters. He is also admitted in Maryland and the District of Columbia.
Jason M. Leifer has served as Town Supervisor of Dryden and on the Dryden Town Board. He has participated in Tompkins County committees examining indigent representation and the local court system. His public service and defense work reflect a practice shaped by municipal operations, criminal justice, and family court proceedings, with particular attention to people who need court-appointed representation.
