Jason J. Sommer

Jason J. Sommer is a partner at Hansen, Kohls, Sommer & Jacob, LLP, where he maintains a robust civil litigation practice focused on professional liability defense, insurance bad faith, and coverage disputes. With decades of experience, he has earned recognition as a Certified Specialist in Legal Malpractice by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization. His reputation for diligence, precision, and integrity has made him a trusted advocate for professionals and insurers alike.

Jason earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, in 1995. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of California, San Diego, awarded in 1991. His strong academic foundation has supported a distinguished legal career characterized by meticulous case analysis and effective courtroom representation.

Before joining Hansen, Kohls, Sommer & Jacob, LLP, Jason began his legal career at Mackenroth, Ryan, Jacobson & Fong, gaining early experience in insurance defense, coverage, and subrogation. He later joined Jacobson-Markham, LLP, where he developed extensive trial and case management skills. Since becoming an equity partner in 2003, he has expanded his practice to include business litigation, malpractice defense, and complex insurance matters.

Appointed by the State Bar of California’s Board of Governors, Jason served on the Committee on Professional Liability Insurance from 2006 to 2012, chairing its Education Subcommittee to promote legal ethics awareness and malpractice prevention. He continues to lecture on professional responsibility and represents attorneys in disciplinary and fee arbitration matters.

A member of the State Bar of California, Sacramento County Bar Association, and Placer County Bar Association, Jason J. Sommer also participates in the Anthony M. Kennedy American Inn of Court, where he contributes to advancing professionalism and excellence in the legal community.
