Jason Barrett

Jason Barrett is a civil litigation attorney at Viridian who chairs the firm’s Litigation Practice Group and serves as an executive officer. He represents clients in Maine and Massachusetts state and federal courts. Barrett handles construction matters, railroad issues, complex business and contract disputes, and conflicts involving real estate transactions, boundary lines, and rights of way. He also advises municipalities, particularly island and coastal communities, on legal matters requiring practical and responsive counsel.

Barrett earned his J.D. from Washington and Lee University School of Law in 2008 and received A.A. and B.A. degrees from Brigham Young University–Hawaii in 2002. During law school, he served as managing editor of the Environmental Law Digest and completed clerkship internships with the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Maine and the US District Court for the District of Utah. This background supports his careful approach to legal analysis, advocacy, and dispute resolution.

His experience includes representing clients in construction-related disputes, railroad matters, commercial and contractual conflicts, and real property litigation. Barrett assists with disputes arising from real estate transactions as well as boundary line and right-of-way issues. Before entering private practice, he served as a senior legislative aide in the Hawaii House of Representatives and taught as an adjunct instructor at Southern Virginia University. These roles strengthened his understanding of public institutions, communication, and complex problem-solving.

Barrett is admitted to practice in Maine and Massachusetts and before the US District Courts for both states. He is a member of the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel and the Maine State Bar Association, and he was named a Super Lawyers Rising Star from 2013 through 2018. Jason Barrett also contributes to the Ellsworth community through service involving the city charter commission, public library board, Rotary Club, and Knowlton Community Park Committee.
