Janice Bashford

Janice Bashford is a partner at Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer LLP, with more than 15 years of experience building strategic partnerships and helping clients navigate the legislative process. Her practice focuses on legislative and public policy matters, congressional oversight and investigations, business law, and financial services. She advises clients on complex policy issues and government engagement involving federal legislation, regulatory concerns, and strategic advocacy. Her work draws on extensive experience within Congress and other government institutions.

Janice earned her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. She earned her B.A. from American University, where she was an Arthur Shackler Scholar. Her academic background provided a strong foundation for a career involving law, public policy, legislative strategy, government relations, and federal advocacy.

Janice previously served as Legislative Director and Chief Counsel to Congresswoman Karen Bass. Her work included judiciary, appropriations, foreign affairs, child welfare, civil rights, voting rights, immigration, health, labor, intellectual property, copyright, and COVID-19 response matters. She worked closely with several congressional committees and caucuses. Her earlier government experience includes roles with Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, and US Senator John Kerry.
