James W. Evans

James W. Evans is a highly experienced family law attorney in Texas. Since 1995, he has represented individuals and families in complex legal matters, including divorce, child custody, child support, adoption, grandparents’ rights, mediation, and collaborative law.

As the founder of Evans Family Law Group, James is committed to providing strategic and compassionate legal representation. James earned his J.D. from Texas A&M School of Law in 1995 after completing his B.A. from Austin College. He was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1995 and later became admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas. His legal career spans decades, during which he has handled thousands of cases, gaining significant courtroom experience and participating in over 100 jury trials.

Early in his career, James served as an Assistant Criminal District Attorney in the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office in Fort Worth, where he prosecuted serious crimes such as domestic violence and child-related offenses. This work significantly deepened his understanding of family-related legal issues and shaped his commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals and families. He later moved into commercial litigation at Hill Gilstrap, managing complex cases involving business law, contracts, and estate disputes. In 2005, James dedicated his practice exclusively to family law, first joining his father’s firm and then founding his own family law practice to better serve clients facing divorce, custody, and other family legal matters.

James W. Evans has received numerous accolades, including recognition as a Texas Monthly Super Lawyer (2015–2022) and a Top Lawyer in Texas by Martindale. He is actively involved in legal education, frequently speaking at seminars and contributing to professional development for attorneys and paralegals.
