Amber Barber is a highly skilled attorney with extensive experience in family law. She handles complex divorce cases, post-divorce modifications, custody disputes, and financial matters, including property division and spousal support.
Amber’s practice focuses on ensuring fair resolutions, whether through negotiation, mediation, or litigation. She works closely with clients to navigate legal challenges involving business valuations, retirement plans, and high-value assets. As a mediator, Amber helps parties reach amicable agreements in a cost-effective manner, whether attorneys represent them or not.
Amber earned her J.D. (1996) from Albany Law School of Union University, where she served as Managing Editor of Production for the Albany Law Journal of Science & Technology. She holds a B.A., cum laude (1992), from St. Lawrence University, with proficiency in Spanish. She also completed a Certificate in Mediation Training (2004) at Woodbury College.
Amber has been practicing law for over two decades, focusing on complex matrimonial and family law matters. She is admitted to practice in Vermont (1998) and New York (1997). She has successfully represented clients in high-asset divorces, child custody cases, and parental rights disputes. As a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) and a Diplomate of the American College of Family Trial Lawyers, she is recognized as a leading family law practitioner.
Amber Barber has played a key role in shaping family law policies. She helped draft Vermont’s Military Parental Rights Act and testified before the legislature on its benefits. She has also trained attorneys on handling parental rights for military personnel. Her leadership includes serving as President of the Vermont Bar Association (2012-2013) and the Vermont Bar Foundation (2014-2015).
