About
James R. Belcher is Senior Counsel in Crowley Fleck’s Casper office. His practice includes banking and finance, creditors’ rights and bankruptcy, energy and natural resources, real estate transactions, and business matters. Before becoming a lawyer, he spent 13 years as a commercial banker, experience that informs his work with lenders, borrowers, businesses, and financial institutions. He advises on financing structures, loan enforcement, collections, bankruptcy issues, and transactions involving real estate and energy assets.
James earned a B.S. in Finance from the University of Colorado and a J.D. with honors from the University of Wyoming Law School, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif. His combined banking and legal background supports a practice focused on commercial finance and business transactions. He began practicing law in Wyoming in 1988 and is admitted in Wyoming, the US District Court for the District of Wyoming, and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.
James represents lenders in commercial and real estate financing transactions, foreclosures, collection litigation, receiverships, and bankruptcy matters. He also represents lenders and borrowers in energy, real estate, equipment, oil and gas, coal, and wind-power financings. His business work includes mergers, acquisitions, and reorganizations for corporate, partnership, and LLC clients. He handles real estate purchases, sales, financing, development issues, easements, water rights, utilities, permitting, and covenants, along with construction and oil-and-gas lien disputes.
James R. Belcher has been recognized in legal publications for bankruptcy and creditor-debtor work and has held leadership roles within Wyoming legal organizations. He serves as legal counsel for the Wyoming Bankers Association and is a Fellow of the American College of Mortgage Attorneys. His long experience in commercial banking and law gives clients a practical perspective on financing risk, enforcement, transactions, and business planning, particularly when legal issues intersect with lending, real estate, energy, and complex commercial relationships.
