James P. Plitz

James P. Plitz is a partner at Waters Tyler Hofmann & Scott in New Albany, Indiana. His practice focuses on estate planning, wills, trusts, probate and post-death administration. He helps families consider how property should be protected, managed and transferred and assists with the legal steps required after a death. His work connects planning for future events with the administration of estates when those plans must be carried out.

Jim earned a B.S. in Accounting from the College of New Jersey and an MBA with a Finance concentration from Lehigh University. He later graduated magna cum laude from Arizona Summit Law School. Before pursuing law, he worked in operations and project management with Ladenburg Thalmann, Prudential Insurance and Travelers Insurance. This background in finance and business supports his understanding of asset management and estate planning questions.

Jim spent more than a decade at Morris Hall, where he developed experience in estate planning and administration and assisted more than 1,000 families. His current work includes designing plans involving wills and trusts and guiding clients through probate and post-death administration. He is licensed in Indiana, Kentucky, New Mexico and Arizona. His experience encompasses both advance planning and the practical tasks required to settle estates.

Jim has served on the boards of Develop New Albany and the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana, among other local organizations. He has also held leadership roles with the Rotary Club of New Albany and the Southern Indiana Estate Planning Council. His civic involvement complements his work with families in the region. James P.
