James M. Vonau

James M. Vonau is a founding member of Decker Vonau & Carr, LLC, and has been practicing law in Columbus, Ohio, since 1981. With over four decades of legal experience, he focuses on estate planning, probate, business law, and real estate matters. Mr. Vonau is known for his practical legal guidance and long-standing commitment to his clients and the legal community.

Mr. Vonau earned his B.A. from The Ohio State University and his J.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Law.

Since beginning his legal career, Mr. Vonau has worked extensively in estate administration, wills, trusts, probate litigation, elder law, and Medicaid planning. His business law practice includes entity formation, succession planning, employment contracts, and mergers. He also handles commercial and residential real estate transactions, landlord-tenant issues, zoning, and real estate tax appeals.

Mr. Vonau has provided legal representation to individuals, families, and business owners throughout Central Ohio. He is a respected member of the Ohio and Columbus Bar Associations. He served as chair of both the Probate Court Committee and the Small Firm/Solo Practitioner Committee within the Columbus Bar Association. In addition, he contributes to the legal profession by co-authoring The Elder Law Desk Reference and teaching continuing legal education courses to attorneys.
