James K. Ball

James K. Ball is a distinguished Boise criminal defense attorney with more than 25 years of experience representing clients in both state and federal courts. Founder of Jim Ball, Attorney at Law, P.A., he focuses his practice on criminal defense, record expungement, construction law, appeals, and related legal matters. He is recognized for his trial skills, appellate advocacy, and dedication to client-focused representation.

James earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Boise State University in 1993 and subsequently received his Juris Doctor from the University of Idaho College of Law in 1996. Following law school, he began his career as a Deputy Ada County Prosecuting Attorney, where he also served as a lobbyist for the Idaho Prosecuting Attorneys Association. He later entered private practice, eventually forming his own firm and becoming a partner at Manweiler, Breen, Ball & Davis, PLLC, before re-establishing his current practice.

Over the course of his career, James has tried more than 50 cases to verdict and argued numerous appeals. His appellate work includes ten cases before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, as well as multiple cases argued before the Idaho Supreme Court and Idaho Court of Appeals. He also serves on the Criminal Justice Act Panel for the U.S. District Court of Idaho, providing skilled defense for clients in federal criminal cases.

James K. Ball has been consistently recognized for his professional excellence. His honors include a 10.0 Superb rating on AVVO, a Preeminent AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell, and recognition as one of the Top 10 Criminal Defense Attorneys in Idaho by the National Academy of Criminal Defense Attorneys.
