James Christie

James Christie is a partner at Tetlow Christie, LLC in Anchorage, Alaska. He represents individuals accused of criminal offenses, including DUI, misdemeanors, felonies, white-collar crimes, drug charges, sex offenses, and violent crimes. Born and raised in Alaska, James understands the state’s communities and court system. He brings more than two decades of criminal defense experience to protecting clients’ rights and challenging government prosecutions.

James earned a B.A. from the University of Alaska in 1998 and received his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2003. He later completed the Trial Practice Institute at the National Criminal Defense College. Early in his career, he clerked for Chief Judge John W. Sedwick of the U.S. District Court for the District of Alaska before serving as a felony trial attorney with the Alaska Public Defender Agency.

James has tried criminal cases throughout Alaska and secured not guilty verdicts in matters ranging from simple misdemeanors to first-degree murder. His courtroom experience includes defending clients against murder, evidence tampering, DUI, and other serious charges. He carefully evaluates the prosecution’s evidence, explains the available options, and develops case strategies tailored to each client’s circumstances. His work is grounded in thorough preparation, direct communication, and determined advocacy at every stage of a criminal case.

James Christie is frequently invited to train new attorneys and provide continuing legal education for criminal defense lawyers. He is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and a founding member and former board member of the Alaska Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. His recognition includes the Alaska Champion of Liberty Award, selection to Alaska Super Lawyers, and recognition in The Best Lawyers in America.
