J Thomas Salata

J Thomas Salata is an accomplished Georgia trial lawyer with over 20 years of experience representing clients in criminal defense, personal injury, bankruptcy, family law, and civil litigation. He is also a certified domestic and civil mediator, offering alternative dispute resolution services across Georgia.

Tom began his legal career as a licensed investigator and firearms instructor, earning statewide recognition for his high-profile investigative work. Inspired by top defense attorneys, he pursued a legal career, earning his Juris Doctor with honors from Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School in 1998. He was admitted to the Georgia Bar in 1999 and is licensed to practice in both the Northern and Middle Districts of the U.S. District Court for the State of Georgia.

Tom’s early legal career included significant trial work across numerous counties as both a private attorney and appointed public defender. His courtroom experience spans capital felony trials, juvenile defense, DFACS litigation, and family law disputes. Over the years, he expanded his practice to include bankruptcy and commercial litigation, all while maintaining a focus on advocacy and justice.

In addition to his legal work, Tom is actively engaged in the community. He volunteers as a mock trial coach, mentor, and public speaker and has been recognized for his pro bono service, including work with Operation Stand Down for homeless veterans. He is a past president and current board member of the North Fulton Bar Association and a contributing member of the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
