J. Scot Wickhem is a registered patent attorney with extensive experience in intellectual property law and innovation strategy. His practice emphasizes patent prosecution, licensing, portfolio management, and strategic counseling. By working closely with inventors, entrepreneurs, and businesses, he helps transform ideas into protected assets while guiding clients through complex domestic and international intellectual property matters.

Scot earned his B.S. in Chemistry with a Business Emphasis from the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire, providing a strong technical foundation for his legal career. He went on to earn his J.D., magna cum laude, from Marquette University Law School. This blend of scientific knowledge and academic excellence enables him to evaluate intellectual property challenges with precision, while also providing business-focused solutions that support client goals.

Scot advises clients on all aspects of patent strategy, including U.S. and international patent prosecution, patentability searches, freedom-to-operate (FTO) analysis, and validity and infringement opinions. With deep experience in the chemical and mechanical arts, he also counsels on trade secret protection, licensing, patent landscape analysis, and post-grant proceedings. His holistic approach to IP portfolio management helps clients reduce risk, strengthen market position, and maximize the long-term value of their innovations.

Before beginning his legal career, Scot worked as an Inorganic Chemist for a major research company, gaining practical insights into complex technical issues. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, further developing discipline and problem-solving skills that continue to shape his practice.
