J. Michael (Mike) King

J. Michael (Mike) King is Counsel at the Law Offices of Peter C. Hansen, LLC, where he focuses on employment law and international law. He represents employees through litigation and alternative dispute resolution, including arbitration, mediation, conciliation, and settlement negotiations. His work covers discrimination, retaliation, harassment, wrongful termination, whistleblowing, reasonable accommodation, security clearance issues, workers’ compensation, wage and hour disputes, internal investigations involving alleged misconduct, and complex related personnel matters.

Mike earned his J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 2007 and his B.A. from Duke University in 2004. During law school, he served as Business Editor of the Denver Journal of International Law & Policy and worked as a student attorney in the Environmental Law Clinic. He also completed internships involving municipal, public defense, environmental, and international legal matters while developing research and advocacy skills.

Mike counsels federal and District of Columbia government employees, international organization staff, embassy and mission employees, private-sector workers, and nonprofit personnel. He has handled matters involving the EEOC, D.C. Office of Human Rights, Merit Systems Protection Board, Office of Special Counsel, Offices of Inspector General, and federal workers’ compensation programs. His international employment work includes matters involving the AfDB, IMF, IsDB, PAHO, and World Bank dispute resolution systems worldwide today.

J. Michael (Mike) King also advises businesses on international investment projects and ventures, including project structuring, partnerships, financing, risk analysis, due diligence, and dispute resolution, with particular attention to frontier and emerging markets. Before joining the firm in 2012, he worked at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes. He is admitted to the District of Columbia and is a member of employment, international law, and local bar organizations in Washington, D.C.
