Irene Steffas

Irene Steffas is a highly accomplished attorney with a career spanning over four decades. Specializing in adoption, immigration, and assisted reproduction law, Ms. Steffas has consistently demonstrated exceptional expertise and dedication to her practice areas.

She earned her Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law in 1983 and began her legal career in maritime law before transitioning to civil law and ultimately establishing her own firm.

In 1986, Ms. Steffas founded the Law Firm of Irene Arfaras, P.A., which later became Steffas & Associates, P.C., reflecting her commitment to serving the diverse needs of her community.

Her early work in adoption law, inspired by her training under attorney Linda Hochberg, laid the foundation for a distinguished career advocating for families and children. She has also become a leader in the growing field of assisted reproduction law, handling surrogacy cases since 1992.

Ms. Steffas’s expertise in intercountry adoption is recognized nationally and internationally. She has delivered lectures at conventions hosted by the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys (AAAA) and the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and has written extensively on the complexities of intercountry adoption. Her contributions include assisting children in foster care without legal immigrant status and advising adoption agencies on visa processing for children.

In addition to her legal practice, Ms. Steffas serves as the Executive Director of St. Nick’s Kids, Inc., a licensed and accredited non-profit child-placing agency specializing in Hague Convention and Non-Hague adoptions. Her commitment to excellence in this field has earned her numerous accolades, including the “Angel in Adoption” award from the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute.
