Ian N. Friedman is the founding and managing partner of Friedman Nemecek Long & Grant, L.L.C. in Cleveland, Ohio. His practice focuses on criminal, cyber, and white collar defense in municipal, state, and federal matters. Friedman represents individuals and organizations from the investigation stage through trial, appeal, and post-conviction proceedings. He also advises licensed professionals facing disciplinary complaints and assists businesses with internal investigations involving potential criminal or regulatory concerns.
Friedman earned his J.D. from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 1997 and his B.A. in Legal Communications with honors from Ohio University in 1994. He has served as an adjunct professor teaching Cybercrime at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law since 2007 and previously taught criminal law and criminal forensics at Ursuline College. His academic and teaching background complements a practice involving electronic evidence, technology-related offenses, criminal procedure, and complex trial strategy.
Friedman has tried more than 200 criminal defense cases to verdict in municipal, state, and federal courts. His experience includes cybercrime and technology-related allegations, white collar investigations, criminal trials, appeals, post-conviction matters, and professional disciplinary proceedings. Banks and insurance companies have also retained him for internal investigative matters. He has served as an expert witness on criminal trial law, criminal procedure, evidentiary issues, legal ethics, and Ohio Criminal Rule 16.
Ian N. Friedman has held leadership roles including president of the American Board of Criminal Lawyers, Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, and Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He helped develop Ohio’s revised Criminal Rule 16 governing open discovery. His current honors include 2026 recognition from Ohio Super Lawyers and Best Lawyers in America for criminal defense. His combination of trial experience, teaching, professional leadership, and criminal justice policy work supports his representation in complex criminal matters.
