Howard Russell

Howard Russell is Of Counsel at Res Nova Law whose practice focuses on patent and trademark law. He handles U.S. and international prosecution in electro-mechanical, computer hardware, and software fields and also advises on intellectual property licensing and litigation matters. Howard brings more than three decades of intellectual property experience from both law-firm and in-house settings, helping individuals and businesses protect, develop, and manage patent and trademark rights tied to technology and commercial activity.

Howard earned a J.D., cum laude, from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University and a B.S. in Design Engineering Technology from Brigham Young University. His combined legal and technical training supports patent and trademark work involving electro-mechanical systems, computer hardware, and software. He applies that background when advising on the protection, prosecution, and commercial use of intellectual property rights across technical fields.

Howard’s practice includes preparing and prosecuting patent and trademark matters in the United States and internationally, along with counseling on licensing and intellectual property disputes. His background includes both private-practice and in-house counsel roles, which gives him experience viewing intellectual property from the perspective of outside legal strategy and day-to-day business operations. He has also served as a co-founder and intellectual property counsel for a Portland technology company developing heated eyewear products.
