Hirschauer, John

John Hirschauer is a criminal defense attorney with Wisehart Wright Trial Lawyers in Westlake, Ohio. He represents people facing charges involving impaired driving, drugs, theft, violent offenses, domestic violence, weapons, property crimes, and juvenile matters. Before moving into defense representation, John spent his legal career with the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office. His background gives him first-hand experience with how criminal cases are investigated, presented, and tried by the government.

John earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Dayton and received his Juris Doctor from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. His legal education prepared him for trial advocacy and for analyzing criminal statutes, evidence, and courtroom procedures. He developed that foundation through years of prosecuting cases, including complex homicide matters, where decisions about witnesses, proof, and litigation strategy carry significant consequences.

John spent fifteen years serving as a prosecutor with the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office, including nine years assigned to its Homicide Unit. During his prosecutorial career, he handled more than 200 trials. His experience covers serious and complex criminal matters, giving him extensive exposure to trial preparation, evidence assessment, witness testimony, and courtroom decision-making. In criminal defense, he applies that experience to assessing the charges and legal issues facing accused individuals.

John Hirschauer received a Distinguished Service honor from the U.S. Marshals Service in 2020. His practice now focuses on helping defendants understand criminal proceedings and respond to prosecution evidence. Experience on the prosecution side of more than 200 trials informs his approach to case strategy and courtroom advocacy. He brings that perspective to matters ranging from traffic and DUI offenses to serious felony and juvenile charges.
