Hershel Chapin

Hershel Chapin is the managing attorney of H. R. Chapin, Attorney & Counselor, PLLC in Dallas, Texas. His practice includes bankruptcy, creditor and debtor representation, commercial and consumer litigation, real estate disputes, foreclosures, business transactions, and appellate matters. Chapin represents secured and unsecured creditors in state, federal, and bankruptcy courts and assists debtors with Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 cases. He also advises businesses on formations, mergers and acquisitions, dissolutions, and related legal concerns.

Chapin earned his J.D. and a Graduate Diploma in Civil Law from Louisiana State University’s Paul M. Hebert Law Center, graduating with Pro Bono Honors. He previously earned B.A. degrees in Finance with Honors and French from Southern Methodist University, where he graduated in the top 15 percent of his class and participated in the University Honors Program. His legal and business education provides a strong foundation for analyzing bankruptcy, financial, commercial, and transactional matters.

Chapin has represented debtors and creditors in Chapter 7, Chapter 11, and Chapter 13 proceedings and handled mortgage litigation, landlord-tenant matters, foreclosure disputes, consumer litigation, and commercial cases. His experience also includes appellate briefing in state and federal courts. Earlier in his career, he interned for U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Harlin D. Hale and conducted bankruptcy research while clerking with a Louisiana law firm, providing additional exposure to bankruptcy law and court procedure.

Hershel Chapin has served as chair of the Dallas Bar Association Legal Ethics Committee and belongs to the State Bar of Texas Bankruptcy Law Section, Dallas Bar Association, and John C. Ford American Inn of Court. He was named among D Magazine’s Best Lawyers Under 40 in 2018 and has devoted more than 1,500 hours to pro bono legal assistance since 2010. His practice combines bankruptcy knowledge, litigation experience, and business-focused counsel for clients facing financial and commercial challenges.
