About

Henry M. Marley is Of Counsel in McLane Middleton’s Trusts & Estates Department in Portsmouth. He advises high-net-worth individuals, multigenerational families, business owners, executives, and fiduciaries on sophisticated wealth transfer and estate planning. His work emphasizes plans that are practical to administer, preserve family wealth across generations, and reflect long-term family objectives. He counsels clients on gifting strategies, closely held businesses, stock options, carried interests, and private investment funds.

Henry earned a J.D. from Cornell Law School and a B.A. from Fordham University. His legal education supports a practice involving complex tax, trust, business, and multistate planning considerations. Before law school, he worked with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, where he assisted with the reinvestigation and prosecution of cold-case homicides. That background adds investigative and analytical experience to his current focus on sophisticated private-client planning and interpretation of estate-planning instruments.

Henry advises on business succession, domicile planning, trust migration, directed trusts, and modernization of irrevocable trust structures. He works closely with accountants, trust companies, financial advisers, valuation professionals, and other counsel to implement coordinated planning strategies. His practice includes preparing for and defending domicile audits and handling cross-jurisdictional planning for families whose assets, businesses, trusts, or residences create legal and tax considerations across more than one state.

Henry M. Marley joined McLane Middleton after practicing in the Private Wealth Services Group at Holland & Knight LLP and with trusts and estates firms in Boston, New York, and New Jersey. He has written on trust common law in an amicus brief submitted to the First Circuit and collaborates with litigators on interpreting estate-planning instruments. His practice combines wealth-transfer planning, trust law, business succession, and multistate strategy for complex family and fiduciary needs.
