H. Kenneth Merritt, Jr.

H. Kenneth Merritt, Jr. leads the transactional corporate practice at Merritt & Merritt in Burlington, Vermont. Ken advises privately and publicly held companies, nonprofit organizations, venture capital funds, and financial institutions. His work includes corporate and securities transactions, business formation, and governance. He helps organizations address the legal arrangements that support their operations, financing needs, and development as their businesses grow.

Ken received his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1979 and is an honors graduate of the University of Michigan. His legal education supports the analysis of corporate structures, securities issues, and commercial agreements. Before his work at Merritt & Merritt, his experience included Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, Spengler, Carlson, Gubar, Brodsky & Frischling, and Lord, Day & Lord.

Ken has concentrated on corporate and securities work for more than 35 years. He led the drafting of Vermont Benefit Corporation legislation, connecting his transactional practice with socially responsible business development. His experience encompasses the legal needs of organizations with different ownership and financing structures, from privately held businesses to public companies and investment funds seeking to organize and govern their activities.

Ken also works with angel investment organizations in Vermont and beyond.
