Gary S. Chilton

Gary S. Chilton is a founding partner of Holladay, Chilton & Erwin in Oklahoma City. His practice focuses on business and commercial litigation, including contract disputes, shareholder actions, trade secret cases, franchise litigation, and oil and gas disputes. He also handles construction litigation and business tort claims. In addition to courtroom representation, he acts as a mediator and arbitrator, helping parties address contested commercial matters outside traditional trials.

Gary earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Kansas School of Law in 1981. He later completed mediation training through Harvard Law School’s Program on Negotiation. His legal education and dispute-resolution training support a practice that moves between trial advocacy, settlement efforts, and formal arbitration. He applies this combination of litigation and dispute-resolution training to business disputes, particularly when parties must compare the risks and benefits of trial with a negotiated outcome.

Gary has appeared in state and federal courts and arbitration proceedings. His representative experience includes defending a substantial shareholder derivative action, securing judgments involving indemnity and franchise agreements, and litigating cases about noncompetition provisions and personal guaranties. He has handled trade secret, business interference, aviation, and energy disputes. His work also includes cases involving corporate governance and business relationships in which financial and operational interests are at stake.

Gary S. Chilton has served on the Admissions and Grievances Committee for the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma. He is a Senior Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America and has been recognized by Best Lawyers and Martindale-Hubbell. He also co-founded the Oklahoma Family Network and has served in leadership roles with children’s health organizations. His career combines commercial trial practice, dispute resolution, and professional service.
