Gary Peterson is a seasoned intellectual property attorney with over 25 years of experience representing clients across a diverse range of industries. As a registered patent attorney, his practice encompasses all areas of IP law, with a strong emphasis on patent prosecution, litigation, and appeals. His legal work spans civil, criminal, and appellate matters, including multiple high-stakes cases argued before the United States Supreme Court.
Gary earned his B.S. in Chemistry with honors from the California Institute of Technology in 1974 and his J.D. from the University of Colorado in 1977, where he was named to the prestigious Order of the Coif. He is licensed to practice in all Oklahoma state and federal courts, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Tenth and Federal Circuits, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He is also registered with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.
Throughout his career, Gary has advised clients in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, oil, and insurance industries. He has litigated numerous patent infringement, trademark, and copyright cases and guided businesses in securing and protecting IP rights. His appellate advocacy includes landmark rulings in both civil and criminal arenas.
Gary has successfully defended a sporting goods company in a patent validity challenge, secured injunctions in patent infringement matters, and obtained trademark victories resulting in brand protection. His criminal appellate experience includes overturning federal death sentences and securing acquittals in serious criminal cases. He also achieved a pivotal ruling for a client wrongly placed on a sex offender registry.
A member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and past president of the Oklahoma Bar Association’s IP Law Section, Gary Peterson continues to serve as a trusted legal advisor, bringing experience, technical skill, and strategic insight to every case.
