About

Fred J. Bachmann is an employment lawyer at Hall, Render, Killian, Heath & Lyman, P.C., and counsels health care clients on employee benefits and tax matters, with particular experience in retirement and welfare benefit plans. He assists clients with plan design, compliance, and administration involving qualified retirement plans, 403(b) plans, and nonqualified deferred compensation arrangements. He also advises on executive compensation, tax exemption, estate planning, and related employment matters. His work combines legal analysis with practical understanding of complex financial and regulatory issues.

Fred earned his B.S., cum laude, from Ball State University in 1980 and his J.D. from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 1987. He was admitted to practice in Indiana and before the US Tax Court in 1987. He was later admitted before the US District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana. His education supports his work involving complex tax and employee benefits matters.

Fred worked as a tax professional with Arthur Young & Co. from 1980 through 1989 before entering private legal practice. He spent most of that period as a certified public accountant in the firm’s tax group. His accounting background gives him additional perspective when addressing retirement plans, compensation arrangements, tax issues, and financial considerations. He uses that combined experience when advising health care organizations on complex benefits and tax-related decisions.

Fred J. Bachmann brings decades of legal and accounting experience to matters involving employee benefits, taxation, compensation, and health care organizations. He is a Certified Public Accountant and maintains memberships with the Indianapolis Bar Association, Indiana State Bar Association, Indiana CPA Society, and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He continues to counsel clients on benefit plan compliance, tax concerns, executive compensation, and related matters requiring regulatory and financial analysis.
