About
Erica J. Hagerott is an associate attorney in the Fargo office of Fredrikson & Byron who practices business litigation. She represents clients in commercial disputes and matters involving trade secrets, shareholder and partnership disagreements, noncompete issues, and appellate work. She approaches litigation by examining a client’s business and the objectives behind a dispute. Before joining the firm in 2026, she clerked for a federal district court judge, gaining a close view of legal arguments and judicial decision-making.
Erica earned a B.S., summa cum laude, from North Dakota State University in 2021. She then received her Juris Doctor, summa cum laude, from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 2024. While studying law, she served as Editor-in-Chief of the North Dakota Law Review and earned recognition in moot court. She was named to the Order of the Coif and the Order of the Barristers, reflecting her academic and advocacy accomplishments.
Erica served as law clerk to Chief Judge Peter D. Welte of the U.S. District Court for the District of North Dakota from 2024 to 2026. Her clerkship involved exposure to federal litigation, legal analysis, and court procedures. Her current practice focuses on business disagreements that can involve ownership rights, confidential information, contractual restrictions, and appeals. This progression from legal research and judicial work to private litigation informs her approach to preparing and assessing disputed matters.
Erica J. Hagerott was the top oral advocate in her law school class’s moot court competitions and earned highest-grade awards in Evidence, Torts, and Advanced Legal Ethics. She is admitted in North Dakota, with a Minnesota admission application pending as of the official profile. Her combination of academic honors, appellate and litigation interests, and federal clerkship experience supports her work on complex business disputes for clients seeking careful legal analysis.
