Eric Benavides

Eric Benavides is a Houston criminal defense attorney who has represented clients in Harris County courts since 2008. His practice is devoted to criminal matters, including DWI charges, domestic violence allegations, and other misdemeanor and felony accusations. Eric prepares cases with trial in mind and examines the evidence used by prosecutors and police. He works with English- and Spanish-speaking clients who need guidance about criminal charges, courtroom procedures, and the possible consequences of their cases.

Eric earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin and his Juris Doctor from Texas Tech University School of Law. He later completed the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association Trial College, an intensive program in trial advocacy. His additional forensic education includes the American Chemical Society’s Forensic Lawyer-Scientist designation and repeated certification in National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Standardized Field Sobriety Testing. This training supports his examination of scientific evidence and police procedures in DWI cases.

Eric has obtained more than 1,000 dismissals and multiple not-guilty verdicts in his criminal defense work. In DWI matters, he draws on training in sobriety testing to review how officers administered and interpreted roadside examinations. In other criminal cases, he examines charging decisions, witness accounts, and the evidence the government intends to use. His experience spans courtroom advocacy and case preparation, allowing him to assess when to challenge the prosecution’s position through hearings or trial.

Eric was selected to Texas Rising Stars from 2020 through 2023 and Texas Super Lawyers from 2023 through 2026. He is affiliated with the Harris County Criminal Lawyers Association, Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, National College for DUI Defense, and DUI Defense Lawyers Association. He also received local recognition from Houstonia and H-Texas magazines.
