About
Emily K. Morris is the founder of EKM Law, PLLC, a Washington, D.C. boutique focused on real estate transactions, municipal matters, and estate planning. In private practice, she represents private-sector clients and District instrumentalities on real estate transactions and District law issues. Her work includes acquisitions and dispositions, office and retail leases, land use and zoning matters, TOPA seller representation, condominium conversions, and historic title and surveyor research.
Morris received her Bachelors of Science in Environmental Studies from the University of Minnesota in 1995 and her Juris Doctorate from Lewis and Clark School of Law in 2000. During law school, she clerked at the Lewis and Clark Legal Clinic on bankruptcy and family matters and served as a special District Attorney for the Multnomah County District Attorney’s office, where she prosecuted misdemeanors.
Morris founded EKM Law in 2014 after 13 years with the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia. She began in misdemeanor prosecution before moving to civil litigation involving real estate, eminent domain, tax litigation, and transactions. She later served as lead counsel on major District real estate projects, including Capital Crossing, Saint Elizabeths East Campus, Howard Theatre, and Hine School.
Emily K. Morris brings public-sector and private transactional experience to complex Washington real estate matters. Her background working with District, quasi-District, and federal agencies gives her practical familiarity with cross-agency issues that can affect development and property transactions. She is admitted in the District of Columbia and Maryland and has remained active in real estate, bar, and community organizations while advising clients on transactions, land use, and local regulatory concerns.
