Ellen M. Schreder

Ellen M. Schreder is a partner at Carson, Clelland & Schreder who practices exclusively in family law. She represents clients in dissolution, custody and parenting time disputes, post-decree matters, modifications, third-party custody, grandparent visitation, and related family cases. She also serves as an Early Neutral Evaluator, Parenting Consultant, Parenting Time Expeditor, and mediator, with a substantial part of her practice devoted to neutral family law services.

Ellen earned a J.D., cum laude, from William Mitchell College of Law in 1990 and a B.A. from the University of Minnesota in 1984. She also attended St. Mary’s College in Winona. Before private practice, she clerked for Hennepin County District Court judges and worked as an Assistant Hennepin County Attorney, experience that provided early courtroom exposure and a practical understanding of litigation and public-sector legal work.

Ellen began practicing with Carson, Clelland & Schreder in 1991, initially handling both criminal prosecution and family law before concentrating fully on family matters. With nearly 35 years of family law experience, she works across contested and negotiated cases and increasingly provides mediation and other neutral services. She has also participated in the PICK Counties Early Neutral Evaluation Task Force Committee since 2011.

Ellen M. Schreder brings long-term family law litigation experience together with dispute-resolution skills designed to help parties address difficult domestic issues. Her work covers both courtroom advocacy and neutral processes, allowing her to assist with contested cases as well as matters suited for negotiated solutions. She focuses on practical case management, informed decision-making, and procedures that help families resolve custody, parenting, support, and divorce-related disputes.
