Ella Alves Capone

Ella Alves Capone is Of Counsel in Gibson Dunn’s Washington, D.C. office and a member of the firm’s White Collar Defense and Investigations, Financial Regulatory, FinTech and Digital Assets, and Anti-Money Laundering Practice Groups. She advises multinational corporations and financial institutions on BSA/AML, anti-corruption, sanctions, payments, consumer financial regulation, compliance programs, and enforcement matters involving regulated and emerging business models.

Capone earned a Juris Doctor from New York University School of Law in 2011, where she served on the Honorary Moot Court Board. She received a Bachelor of Science from Fordham University in 2008, graduating summa cum laude with departmental honors and completing a dual degree in Psychology and Sociology. She was also inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, adding a strong academic foundation to her regulatory and investigations practice.

Capone represents clients in matters involving the DOJ, SEC, FinCEN, OCC, OFAC, the Federal Reserve, state financial services regulators, and gaming regulators. Her experience includes internal investigations, anti-corruption and AML compliance reviews, sanctions matters, cryptocurrency and digital asset issues, payments programs, and pre-deal diligence. She has also handled cross-border matters involving Latin America, including anti-corruption and compliance work connected with Brazil.

Ella Alves Capone has been recognized for work in fintech, white collar defense, and investigations, including Law360’s 2023 fintech Rising Stars and other legal industry honors. She regularly speaks and writes about financial services regulation, anti-money laundering compliance, and enforcement trends.
