About
Elise Cousineau is a family law attorney who works with people facing major changes in their homes, finances, and parenting plans. She focuses on steady guidance, careful planning, and practical solutions. Her work includes divorce, child custody, alimony, child support, mediation, adoption, and post-judgment modifications for many Connecticut families.
Elise earned a B.A. English from the University of Vermont and a B.A. Political Science from the University of Vermont. She later earned a J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 2014. At UCONN Law, she completed clinic work at the Center for Children’s Advocacy during her formal legal training.
Elise first planned to represent children, and that early goal shaped the way she views family matters. After law school, she began representing adults in family law cases and found that the work matched her skills. She has focused exclusively on family law throughout her legal career and client service.
Elise helps clients handle sensitive disputes involving divorce, child custody, child support, alimony, grandparents’ rights, prenuptial agreements, same-sex divorce, restraining orders, and protective orders. She also works on criminal law related to domestic cases. Her practice centers on helping clients make informed decisions during stressful family transitions and life changes.
Elise brings a thoughtful problem-solving style to each case. She works with clients to build agreements that support better post-divorce lives. Her approach is organized, patient, and goal-focused, especially when the details of parenting, support, property, and future responsibilities must fit together clearly and remain workable over time for clients.
Elise has served as Competition Editor for the Connecticut Law Review. She is also a Special Master at Hartford Superior Court, Family Division, and New Britain Superior Court, Family Division. In addition, she is a Member of the Tolland County Attorney Grievance Panel by appointment of the Superior Court judges.
Elise Cousineau continues to support clients by combining legal knowledge with a calm and practical approach. She helps people understand their choices, prepare for each step, and work toward fair results. Her family law work is focused on clearer agreements, stronger planning, and better outcomes for clients during difficult times.
