Ed Risha

Ed Risha is a seasoned attorney with over 25 years of experience practicing law throughout Wyoming. His legal career has spanned public service and private practice, and he has handled a wide range of matters, from complex criminal trials to administrative hearings and civil litigation. His background includes significant courtroom experience, judicial roles, and legal leadership at the state level. He is dedicated to providing effective, experienced legal representation tailored to the needs of individuals and the community.

Mr. Risha earned his J.D. with honors from the University of Wyoming College of Law in 1991. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Black Hills State University and attended Columbia University as part of his academic journey.

Mr. Risha began his legal career as a law clerk to Chief United States District Court Judge Clarence Brimmer. He then served as a Trial Attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice Honors Program in Washington, D.C., gaining national litigation experience. After returning to Wyoming, he served as Rawlins City Attorney, Carbon County Prosecuting Attorney, and was a partner in a local law firm.

Mr. Risha brings extensive courtroom experience, having handled hundreds of jury and bench trials ranging from serious felonies to minor misdemeanors. He has also served as a Municipal Judge, Circuit Court Magistrate, and Hearing Examiner for the Wyoming Office of Administrative Hearings, where he decided cases involving Workers’ Compensation, driver’s license matters, and state agency appeals. Later, as Deputy Director and then Director of the Wyoming Board of Parole, he developed in-depth knowledge of post-sentencing and parole processes, giving him a comprehensive understanding of the criminal justice system from charge through release.

Ed Risha is admitted to practice in all Wyoming state courts, the U.S. District Court for Wyoming, and the U.S. Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a member of the National College of DUI Defense Attorneys and is a trained mediator with experience in resolving complex cases. With a diverse legal background and a strong commitment to public service, Mr. Risha continues to offer knowledgeable and effective legal support across Wyoming.
