About
Dina Atwood is a shareholder at SP&F Attorneys whose practice focuses on special and general education law and personnel matters. She works closely with education clients throughout Vermont. Her practice areas also include labor and employment law, discrimination law, and collective bargaining. She helps educational institutions address legal questions arising in their operations, where statutory obligations and the needs of the people they serve must be considered together.
Dina earned a J.D. from Vermont Law School in 1999 and a B.A. from the University of Rhode Island in 1996. She is admitted before the Vermont Supreme Court, the U.S. District Court for the District of Vermont, and the Second Circuit. Legal education provides the analytical foundation needed to interpret institutional obligations and distinguish between the factual and legal questions raised by a particular situation.
Dina worked for the State of Vermont’s Agency of Human Services for eight years before joining SP&F Attorneys in May 2008. She became an owner of the firm in January 2012. Her background connects government service with representation of education clients. School and personnel issues can involve overlapping responsibilities, so identifying the applicable requirements and maintaining a clear understanding of the institution’s circumstances are central parts of legal problem solving.
Dina Atwood emphasizes strong client relationships, open communication, and prompt responses to legal concerns. Her work recognizes that schools and municipalities are regulated institutions serving real people. She brings that perspective to questions involving education and employment. By working through issues with clients, she helps institutions understand their choices, address personnel concerns, and respond to challenges in a way that takes account of their public responsibilities.
