About
John Klesch is a Shareholder at SP&F Attorneys, a Vermont firm serving communities and public institutions. His practice includes municipal law, litigation, insurance coverage, labor and employment, and education law. He counsels clients on public records, open meetings, contracts, land use, and tax appeals. His work combines courtroom advocacy with advice on the legal questions that arise in managing local institutions and community affairs.
Klesch earned a J.D. from Vermont Law School in 1995, graduating cum laude. His academic activities included the Environmental Moot Court Team, and he received an AmJur Award. He previously earned a B.A. from Dickinson College in 1991. His legal education supports the analysis of statutes, government procedures, and disputed claims, while his advocacy training provides a foundation for presenting clients’ positions in different forums.
Klesch has litigated in Vermont state and federal courts and appeared before regulatory agencies. In 2003, he became Executive Director of the Vermont Retail Association, serving for nearly four years as its chief Vermont lobbyist. That role involved advocacy before the legislative and executive branches. He joined SP&F in 2007, bringing experience with litigation, public policy, and the practical concerns of organizations affected by government decisions.
John Klesch approaches representation with attention to the time, cost, and risk involved in each matter. His experience includes service as an Associate Member of the Vermont Board of Bar Examiners from 2009 through 2014. Whether advising on institutional responsibilities or working toward a negotiated resolution, he draws on experience across government branches to help clients assess their options and choose a workable course of action.
