Devitt Cooney

Devitt Cooney is a dedicated trial attorney who focuses his legal practice on representing individuals impacted by serious injuries and wrongful death. His main areas of concentration include mesothelioma, lung cancer, and other illnesses caused by asbestos exposure. He brings compassion and determination to each case he handles.

Devitt earned his B.A. from the University of Michigan in 2013 and went on to receive his J.D. from Boston College Law School in 2016. While completing his legal studies, he clerked in the Felony Trial Division at the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office and also worked with the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office in Massachusetts.

Before entering private practice, Devitt served as an Assistant State’s Attorney in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. There, he gained courtroom experience in the First Municipal District, Child Abuse and Neglect, and Juvenile Delinquency divisions. He handled contested motions, bench trials, and multiple jury trials during his time as a prosecutor.

Devitt is licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois and in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. He is a proud member of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association and the American Association for Justice, where he continues to support the rights of injured individuals.
