Derek L. Tabone

Derek L. Tabone is the founding attorney of the Law Offices of Tabone Inc. and has practiced law since 1978. Based in Van Nuys, California, his career spans decades of representation in complex litigation matters, with a practice grounded in courtroom advocacy, strategic planning, and comprehensive legal analysis across multiple areas of law.

Derek earned his Bachelor of Science in Commerce, Master of Business Administration, and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Santa Clara. He passed the California Bar Exam on his first attempt and began his legal career in Los Angeles as in-house counsel for a prepaid legal plan, gaining early experience in diverse legal issues.

Derek later built a substantial real estate practice handling both transactional and litigation matters. After opening his own firm, his practice expanded to include personal injury, criminal defense, bankruptcy, and business disputes. His work has consistently emphasized litigation, requiring detailed preparation, negotiation skill, and trial experience.

From 1992 to approximately 1998, Derek was also licensed to practice law in Texas, maintaining offices in Houston and San Antonio. In 1996, he incorporated his firm as the Law Offices of Tabone Inc., which remains the current corporate structure of his legal practice in California.

Derek is licensed to practice before all California state courts, the Northern, Eastern, Central, and Southern Districts of the United States District Courts, the U.S. Tax Court, and the Ninth and Federal Courts of Appeal. He has tried approximately 200 cases, including numerous jury trials.
