Dennis Murrell is a Principal Partner at Gray Ice Higdon, known for his exceptional work in complex commercial and intellectual property litigation. With a focus on high-stakes disputes involving trade secrets, restrictive covenants, shareholder conflicts, and patent infringement, he brings decades of courtroom experience to every case he leads.
Dennis earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Cincinnati in 1991 and his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Kentucky in 1987. Dennis is admitted to practice in Kentucky and before several federal courts, including the Sixth Circuit and the Federal Circuit, as well as multiple U.S. District Courts across Kentucky and Indiana.
Dennis has tried numerous commercial litigation cases to verdict and has served as lead counsel in more than fifty preliminary injunction hearings. Known for combining litigation strategy with compelling storytelling and legal technology, he effectively translates complex business disputes into persuasive arguments for judges and juries.
Dennis has represented clients in state and federal courts across the U.S., including New York, California, Texas, and Delaware. Dennis is often called upon in “bet-the-company” litigation where the stakes are significant, and outcomes are critical to a client’s future operations.
A long-standing leader in the field, Dennis has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America®, Benchmark Litigation, and Managing IP’s IP Stars. He is a Kentucky Super Lawyer from 2009 to 2025, has earned Top 10 and Top 50 designations, and was named Louisville Lawyer of the Year in 2019 for his work in patent litigation.
