About

Andrew N. Ferguson is a regulatory and antitrust attorney currently serving as the 57th Chairman of the Federal Trade Commission. Since taking office in January 2025, he has focused on advancing national enforcement strategies in competition policy, tech regulation, and consumer protection.

Andrew began his academic journey at the University of Virginia, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in history with the highest distinction in 2009. He began law school at William & Mary before transferring to the University of Virginia School of Law, where he was an articles editor for the Virginia Law Review and received his Juris Doctor in 2012.

Andrew launched his legal career by clerking for federal judges, including a U.S. Supreme Court Justice. He then practiced antitrust law, handling major litigation and regulatory reviews. His policy work deepened in the U.S. Senate, where he advised key Republican leaders on judicial nominations and constitutional matters.

Andrew later became the solicitor general of Virginia in 2022, leading high-stakes appellate litigation and defending state laws before both state and federal courts. His work ensured Virginia’s legal positions were strongly represented in major constitutional cases and federal appeals.

Andrew joined the FTC as commissioner in 2024 and became chairman in early 2025. Though known for easing business restrictions, he maintained strong oversight of Big Tech and led initiatives targeting child data privacy and digital surveillance pricing. His legal approach blends constitutional fidelity with modern regulatory enforcement.

Andrew N. Ferguson continues to shape national policy through his leadership at the FTC, where he advocates for fair competition, individual privacy rights, and balanced merger oversight. His legal acumen and policy experience position him as a pivotal figure in U.S. regulatory law and government enforcement.
