David T. Owens

David T. Owens is a Texas attorney and counselor at law at The Owens Law Firm, PLLC, whose practice focuses on state and federal criminal defense law and personal injury litigation. He represents clients facing DWI, assault, theft, drug possession, misdemeanors, felonies, and other criminal charges. He also handles serious personal injury, product liability, premises liability, medical malpractice, and wrongful death matters, bringing experience from both prosecution and complex civil litigation to his client representation and advocacy.

David earned his J.D. from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1997 and his B.A. in Economics, cum laude, from The University of Texas at Austin in 1994. During law school, he worked in the Lubbock County District Attorney’s Office Appellate Section, where he addressed appellate issues and tried misdemeanor cases. His education and early prosecutorial training established a strong foundation for litigation and appellate advocacy in practice today.

David began his legal career as briefing attorney to Presiding Judge Michael J. McCormick of the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. He later served as an Assistant District Attorney in Tarrant County, progressing from misdemeanor to felony cases. As a prosecutor, he acted as lead counsel in more than 80 criminal jury trials and negotiated hundreds of misdemeanor and felony plea agreements, gaining extensive courtroom and case-evaluation experience.

David T. Owens later entered private civil practice, representing Fortune 500 and international companies in state and federal courts as national defense counsel. His work included major personal injury, product liability, premises liability, medical malpractice, and wrongful death litigation. He is admitted in Texas and all four federal district courts in the state and belongs to several criminal defense, bar, and professional organizations supporting his litigation- and defense-focused legal practice statewide today.
