David Benowitz

David Benowitz is a respected Maryland criminal defense attorney with deep trial experience. He began his career with the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia. As a Staff Attorney, he represented thousands of clients in serious cases, including murder, robbery, carjacking, and sexual abuse matters.

David graduated with honors from the University of Pennsylvania. He then attended the George Washington University School of Law, where he graduated near the top of his class. He also earned a Master of Laws degree in Trial Advocacy from Temple University’s Beasley School of Law after several years of practice.

David served on the Law Review and Moot Court Board while in law school. He also took part in the D.C. Law Students in Court Program. These experiences helped build his skills in research, writing, courtroom work, and direct client advocacy in difficult criminal cases.

David has earned the highest AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell and a 10/10 AVVO score. He has been recognized as a Super Lawyer from 2013 to 2021 and as a Top Attorney by the Washington Post Magazine. He is also certified as a Criminal Trial Advocate.

David has defended juveniles and adults in complex criminal cases before judges and juries. His representative matters include fraud, sex offenses, violent crimes, drug charges, corruption investigations, federal bribery matters, embezzlement, armed robbery, assault, carjacking, and drug trafficking cases with dismissals, acquittals, reversals, and sentencing results.

David is a faculty member at Harvard Law School’s Trial Advocacy Workshop. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the National Trial Lawyers Association – Top 100 Trial Lawyers. He is licensed in the District of Columbia and Maryland and is admitted to the federal district courts in both jurisdictions.
