About

David Andreasen is a patent lawyer at Secant Intellectual Property Law who focuses on domestic patent prosecution and intellectual property portfolio development. He advises individual inventors as well as large and small companies on identifying, protecting, and leveraging patent rights. With about 20 years of patent law experience, his work spans technologies in the electrical, mechanical, and computer fields. His technical knowledge includes wired and wireless network communications, signal processing, optical systems, acoustics, and nuclear physics.

David earned his J.D., cum laude, from Campbell University. He received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering, cum laude, from the University of Minnesota. His engineering education provides a technical foundation for understanding sophisticated inventions and communicating with inventors about complex concepts. This combination of legal and engineering training supports his work drafting patent applications and developing strategies for protecting innovations across diverse technology sectors.

David previously served for three years as a Patent Examiner at the US Patent and Trademark Office early in his legal career. He later worked as in-house patent counsel for a consumer electronics company, gaining experience from the corporate side of patent practice. Before his patent career, he served as an instructor for the US Naval Nuclear Propulsion program. That teaching experience strengthened his ability to explain technical subjects to inventors and patent examiners.

David Andreasen is admitted to practice law in Massachusetts and is registered to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office. His background combines patent examination, in-house intellectual property counsel, engineering, and technical instruction. He applies that experience to patent portfolio development and prosecution matters involving communications systems, electronics, computing technologies, mechanical innovations, optics, acoustics, and other technically complex inventions.
