Darek S. Bushnaq is a partner at Venable LLP, where he focuses on bankruptcy, financial restructuring, and creditors’ rights. He guides clients through complex Chapter 11 proceedings, reorganizations, and commercial litigation, often advising secured parties in real estate-related bankruptcy cases and out-of-court workouts.
Darek earned his J.D. from Washington and Lee University School of Law in 1997. He also holds an M.S. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a B.A. from Grinnell College. Following law school, he clerked for the Honorable Ross W. Krumm of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Virginia.
Throughout his career, Darek has represented debtors, creditors, trustees, and asset purchasers in high-value cases. His clients include financial institutions, energy companies, healthcare providers, private equity funds, and commercial mortgage servicers. His litigation experience also spans receiverships, foreclosures, and loan restructurings.
Darek is licensed in Maryland, Virginia, and Delaware, and regularly appears in bankruptcy courts and related forums. His extensive background enables him to deliver strategic solutions for clients navigating distressed asset scenarios, including single-asset real estate cases and creditor-debtor disputes involving complex financial structures.
