Daniel Johnson

Daniel Johnson is a Houston trial lawyer and founding partner who represents people injured in serious accidents and families pursuing wrongful death claims. His practice covers truck accidents, traumatic brain injuries, catastrophic burns, oilfield accidents, and offshore and maritime injuries. A seventh-generation Texan raised in Brazoria County, Daniel previously represented major corporations in complex insurance, energy, and financial services disputes. His earlier work involved both defense and plaintiff-side litigation, including high-stakes cases involving some of the world’s largest companies.

Daniel earned a degree in Philosophy from the University of Texas at Austin while working as a venue manager at Stubb’s. He received his Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law, graduating as class valedictorian. He served as Articles Editor of the Law Review and won state and national moot court championships, including competitions in New York City and at Harvard alongside Juan Garcia.

Following law school, Daniel completed two years of federal judicial clerkships, working with two U.S. District Court judges in Houston. He then practiced in the trial group at Fulbright & Jaworski before joining Sutherland Asbill & Brennan in 2007 to help establish its Houston litigation section. He advanced to partner-in-charge of the Houston office, overseeing daily operations, and chaired the maritime practice group. His corporate litigation experience includes major commercial disputes and plaintiff recoveries totaling tens of millions of dollars.

Daniel Johnson later co-founded a personal injury practice with Juan Garcia, his former law school classmate. The practice reports a $209 million wrongful death verdict involving Karl Schneider, who contracted hantavirus at a Colorado worksite, and a $78 million settlement involving a severe oilfield injury. Its published corporate litigation results also include recoveries exceeding $20 million each in an underwater pipeline incident and an offshore collision matter. Daniel has received Chambers USA recognition for insurance expertise, Texas Super Lawyers Rising Star honors, and Houston Business Journal recognition in 40 Under 40 and Who’s Who in Energy.
