D. Patrick Long is a senior partner at Squire Patton Boggs and a founding partner of the firm’s Dallas office. He is an experienced trial lawyer who represents clients in complex litigation matters and provides strong advocacy in both federal and state courts.
Patrick earned his B.B.A., with honors, from Southern Methodist University in 1972. He later received his J.D. from the University of Texas in 1975. His legal education provided the foundation for a career focused on litigation and trial advocacy.
Patrick has more than 45 years of experience trying major jury trials and handling complex disputes. He regularly represents clients in federal and state courts and has also managed numerous arbitration proceedings involving complex legal and business issues.
Patrick has substantial experience handling disputes related to the energy industry. His work includes litigation and arbitration involving energy business matters, where he provides strategic legal representation and trial preparation for clients facing significant commercial challenges.
Patrick has received several professional recognitions during his career. He has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America for Energy Law from 2023 through 2026 and for Commercial Litigation in 2026.
Patrick has also been recognized by Law Dragon 500 Leading Lawyers in America and has been named among the Best Lawyers in Dallas by D. Magazine since 2016. He has also been selected as a Super Lawyer since 2017.
D. Patrick Long is admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and all state and federal courts in Texas, as well as all federal courts in Oklahoma. He remains committed to providing strong trial advocacy for clients facing complex legal disputes.
