About
Courtney Allen Van Winkle is a Richmond, Virginia, personal injury attorney and shareholder with more than 30 years of experience representing injured people and their families. She handles car and truck accidents, traumatic brain injuries, and wrongful death claims throughout Virginia and nationwide. She explains each stage of litigation, keeps clients informed, and challenges insurers and large corporations when their actions threaten an injured person’s rights or access to compensation.
Courtney earned her J.D. from the University of Richmond School of Law in 1990. She received her B.A. in Psychology and Political Science from Vanderbilt University in 1986. She is licensed in Virginia and admitted before the US District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia. Her education and court admissions support her ability to evaluate evidence, prepare injury claims, and litigate complex disputes in state and federal forums.
Courtney has worked as a trial attorney since 1990 and became a shareholder in 2014. She has represented clients in serious accident, brain injury, and wrongful death cases, including a matter taken to the Virginia Supreme Court for a 12-year-old whose insurer denied medical payments. She has also lectured on children as witnesses and contributed to training materials used by lawyers and judges addressing children’s courtroom experiences.
Courtney Allen Van Winkle was inducted into the Virginia Lawyers Weekly Hall of Fame in 2023 and its inaugural Influential Women of Law class in 2019. She has appeared in The Best Lawyers in America since 2019 and Virginia Super Lawyers from 2015 through 2026.
