About
W. Corbin Howard is a Billings, Montana attorney whose private practice concentrates on family law. He opened his solo practice in 1981 and has worked almost exclusively on family law matters since 1997. His experience includes divorce and other disputes involving family relationships. He also offers mediation, drawing on decades of work with clients and court proceedings involving difficult legal and personal decisions.
Corbin graduated from the University of Montana Law School in 1976. Before and during his early legal training, he held internships with the Fort Belknap Reservation and Yellowstone County Attorney’s Office. He began his legal career as staff counsel for the Montana Office of Public Instruction, then served as a Deputy Yellowstone County Attorney. These positions provided experience in public law, courtroom proceedings, and legal decision-making.
His earlier career included criminal prosecutions involving offenses from DUI to homicide, civil disputes, injury matters, insurance issues, and commercial litigation. From 1991 through 1997, he also handled approximately 700 bankruptcy cases as a U.S. Bankruptcy Trustee. This varied background gives context to financial and legal issues that may arise alongside divorce proceedings and other family disputes.
W. Corbin Howard has served as chair of the Family Law Section of the State Bar of Montana and president of the Yellowstone Area Bar Association. His honors include a State Bar of Montana Local Professionalism Award and a Yellowstone Area Bar Association Professionalism Award.
