Christopher R. Cabanillas

Christopher R. Cabanillas is a New York attorney at  Cabanillas & Associates, P.C., whose practice focuses on immigration, real estate, foreclosure defense litigation, and mortgage loan modifications. As a founder and principal, he guides clients through matters involving property, financing, and immigration procedures. His work combines transactional knowledge with litigation experience gained across major legal markets.

Cabanillas earned a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts in 1997 and a J.D. from Columbia University in 2001. He was admitted to the New York Bar after completing law school and later gained admission in California and Connecticut.

Cabanillas began his legal career as an associate in the Corporate and Securities Department of Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe, LLP’s New York office. In 2003, he moved to California and joined Buchalter Nemer Fields & Younger, LLP. His work there included joint ventures and tax-credit syndication within the real estate finance department.

Cabanillas joined Cox Castle & Nicholson, LLP, where he concentrated on real estate development in 2004. He later returned to New York and established his own practice in 2006. His background in corporate transactions, real estate finance, and development provides a broad foundation for advising clients facing property disputes, foreclosure concerns, loan modification issues, and immigration matters.

Christopher R. Cabanillas supports organizations serving local communities beyond client representation. He has helped raise funds for El Centro Hispano, a White Plains nonprofit that assists Hispanic families, and has received proclamations from the City of White Plains, Westchester County, and New York State. He also serves on the board of Legal Services of the Hudson Valley, which provides civil legal assistance to individuals and families who cannot afford counsel.
