About
Christopher McNerney is a partner at Outten & Golden who represents individuals, governmental agencies, and nonprofit organizations in employment and civil-rights litigation. His practice focuses on systemic discrimination, wage theft, criminal-history discrimination, credit and background checks, gender discrimination, race discrimination, and digital discrimination. Christopher handles trial and appellate cases challenging company-wide practices. He also co-chairs the firm’s Public Interest Committee and Government Representation Practice Group, which works with state and local governments on employment enforcement actions.
Christopher earned a J.D. from NYU School of Law and a B.A. from Macalester College. His legal education supports complex class and impact litigation involving employment law, civil rights, evidence, appellate procedure, and large groups of affected workers. That training provides a foundation for analyzing employer policies, developing class-wide theories, briefing difficult legal issues, and presenting claims that challenge practices affecting workers across entire companies or industries.
Christopher has litigated against major employers, sports organizations, transit providers, consumer reporting agencies, and technology companies. His notable matters include a case challenging US Census Bureau background-check policies, a large gender-discrimination settlement involving pay and promotion claims, and litigation for the District of Columbia involving worker misclassification. He has also handled class actions challenging the use of criminal records in hiring and other employment screening practices that can create broad discriminatory effects.
Christopher McNerney is admitted to practice law in New York and in several federal district and appellate courts. His work combines employment litigation, civil-rights advocacy, class actions, and representation of public entities. He has received recognition for impact litigation and continues to pursue cases involving hiring barriers, pay practices, discrimination, and digital systems. His practice focuses on changing unlawful workplace policies while seeking meaningful remedies for workers and public clients affected by systemic employment practices.
