Christopher B. Leopold

Christopher B. Leopold is a Vermont education lawyer who has devoted more than 25 years of private practice to representing school districts across the state. He advises school administrators and board members on general education, labor and employment, school governance, collective bargaining, employee relations, and complex student matters. His practical approach draws on firsthand experience in public school administration and school board leadership.

Christopher earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Vermont before receiving his Juris Doctor from Vermont Law School. His legal education, together with his background in government and school operations, supports a clear understanding of the laws and policies that shape public education. This foundation helps him evaluate legal concerns, explain available options, and develop workable solutions for school leaders.

Christopher previously served as Manager of Personnel and Legal Counsel for the Chittenden South Supervisory Union, where he handled human resources management and a broad range of legal matters. He also spent 12 years as a state government department head and an attorney in Vermont’s criminal justice system. In private practice, he has led education law groups and guided school districts through consolidation proceedings under Act 46. He served seven years on the Champlain Valley Union High School board, including three years as chair.

Christopher B. Leopold regularly presents seminars for Vermont school districts and professional organizations. His programs address education law, school governance, student rights and discipline, employment law, collective bargaining, employee evaluations, and contract and policy administration. In 2016, he taught Education Law and Finance as an adjunct faculty member at St. Michael’s College. He has also served as a guest lecturer at the University of Vermont and the College of Joseph. His experience helps school leaders address difficult legal issues with fair, informed, and understandable guidance.
