Charles R. Peifer

Charles R. Peifer is a shareholder and trial lawyer at Peifer, Hanson, Mullins & Baker, P.A., who handles commercial litigation, class actions, First Amendment matters, and general civil lawsuits and disputes. He represents businesses and individuals in complex cases before New Mexico state and federal courts. Charles earned his B.A. with honors from The Johns Hopkins University in 1982. He received his J.D. magna cum laude from Cornell Law School in 1985. He belonged to the Order of the Coif during his legal education. His academic preparation established the research, analytical, and advocacy skills that support his complex litigation practice.

Charles entered New Mexico practice in 1985 and later served as Chief Assistant Attorney General from 1989 to 1990. He supervised 30 lawyers across four civil divisions and represented executive agencies and judiciary members before the New Mexico Supreme Court. He previously defended medical malpractice, product liability, employment, and general tort claims in private practice. He is admitted before federal district courts in New Mexico and Arizona, the Ninth and Tenth Circuits, and the US Supreme Court.

Charles R. Peifer has earned recognition from Best Lawyers, Chambers USA, and Super Lawyers for his litigation work. He has appeared in Best Lawyers since 2002 and Super Lawyers since 2008. He served on New Mexico’s civil jury-instructions committee from 1995 through 2003 and chaired it from 2004 through 2007.
